It’s been awhile since we’ve had a hot summer in Niagara – and that suits us just fine. Pinot Noir ripens earlier than many other varieties planted in Niagara. And a moderate summer lets us great beautiful ripeness while maintaining the acid necessary for making great rosé.

Our model pig comes from the Willms Farm in Niagara-on-the-Lake where we source our Chardonnay. And the outfit this year is an ode to Tintin when he walked on the moon as written by Hergé in 1950. It is one of our favourite books – and it just felt like a fitting destination.

Vieni is a vineyard we have worked with several times now – and we are always happy with the quality of the fruit. The colour of our Rosé always comes from the press and doesn’t see a lot of skin contact – and the goal has always been to get a pale hue. Mother nature rarely obliges our choice of colour – but this year she did us a solid. Expect flavours of strawberry, watermelon, and subtle hints of citrus pith. As always a portion of this wine undergoes malolactic fermentation to help build some texture on the back palate – and make for a medium finish.

We look forward to sharing this with family and friends during the warm days of this summer. Summer is sure taking its sweet time getting here! We feel that the balance in this wine, and the low acidity may have you thinking there is a hole in the bottom of the bottle. As always, no need to be fussy with fancy food pairings – This is Rosé – don’t make serving it complicated – Of course this pairs with food! Serve this whatever you want to eat you won’t be disappointed – but the ideal pairing is a second glass!
