Who loves Riesling? We do! Who loves sweet Riesling! WE DO! When we had the opportunity to get our hands on some botrytis affected fruit in 2023 we jumped on the chance to work with it. One of our favourite styles of Riesling have a bit more sweetness than you typically expect from Niagara. But it’s critically important to have things balanced with acidity. We think we have achieved the balance here.
The wine is called Flight of the Bumblebee because getting this to bottle was a bit frantic … Sometimes things don’t go exactly as planned in the cellar and your winemaker needs to be busy like a bee to make sure your wine ends up in bottle as planned. It’s also easy to think of bees when your wine has a nice honeyed note that plays well with delicious ripe fruit flavours.
Aromas of ripe peach, pear, and beeswax climb out of the glass with nice intensity. On the palate you find a symphony of orchard fruit – it’s as if we have packed an entire Niagara farmers market into the bottle with apricot, peach, nectarine, pear … and hints of floral honey.
The finish is long with whispers of honey and subtle spice that linger long after the wine has left your mouth. Crisp acidity keeps it light on the mid palate and your mouth will be longing for the next sip. The lower alcohol content has this wine begging to be opened on a patio during a hot day with great company.
